portrait of Chet Salustri

When Chet completed his Masters of Fine Arts Degree in ceramics at the State University of New York at New Paltz, he fulfilled his life long goal of becoming a potter. Over the past 28 years he has maintained a pottery studio in Florida, New Mexico, Missouri and central New York.

Chet sells and exhibits his work through gallery shows, craft fairs and retail shops. He has been a member of Handwork since 1995. Chet has taught many classes in pottery and clay sculpture and also gives ceramic workshops. Currently he teaches pottery classes at Cornell University.

“My imagination sparks my creativity. I am always trying to expand the limits of my clay work. Each piece that I create is a one-of-a-kind that reflects my interests. I am inspired by elements of nature, animals, fish and the human figure. Humor is an important quality in my artwork and I try to express this element in each piece. Using a strong pottery form and natural elements, making a relationship between these two in a humorous way is what my work is all about.”

Chet received a BA from Kansas City Art Institute and a MFA from SUNY at New Paltz.
