Stephen Landau

Stephen Landau's woodwork leans toward graceful simplicity. He aims to discover new techniques and hone his skills that help reveal the natural beauty of the wood he works with. Turning a bowl involves a spinning block of wood and a sharp tool. The other ingredients are skill and technique. The eyes continuously assess the form as it develops and directs every part of the body to make fine adjustments, in order to refine the shape and to respond to what the wood is communicating to the turner. Wood turning is easy to learn but takes years to master.
