The process of keum boo is fusing a layer of 24K gold on metal and make a permanent bond using heat. I use sterling silver as a base metal. I finish the piece with oxidation and a brushed finish to achieve a striking contrast with the gold.
Note: The placement of the 24K gold foil varies slightly from one earring to another. It is the nature of keum boo. They are unique.
The stud is made of sterling silver.
My jewelry is all made by hand, one by one, without the use of molds. Your piece will be unique and one of a kind. Allow for some variance between pieces.
I approach my craft with 15 years of experience using traditional and time-honored metalsmithing traditions in my upstate NY studio.
Caring for the environment is a keystone of my practice. I source my metals from companies that provide recycled material. Sourcing from sustainable companies that reclaim and process fine metals means that my materials are not newly mined, which makes for an eco-friendly practice.
