Quilled Belted Kingfisher
Sorry, currently out of stock
Handcrafted by Caroline Spellman. She uses a process called quilling in which narrow strips of paper are rolled into coils and shaped to produce a picture. A hand-cut overlay painted with watercolor completes the work. Every piece is mounted in a handmade, hardwood frame.
Caroline Spellman lives surrounded by gardens, forests, wetlands, and agricultural fields in the Finger Lakes region. Her background in biology and stewardship of the natural landscape she lives in inspires her unique and original treatment of paper filigree. Quilling has been practiced since the Renaissance. Caroline's attention to species specific detail pays homage to the wildlife illustrator James J. Audubon.
