Artist Statement: Born 1972 Bogota, Colombia
I am a graduate of the Edna Manley School of Fine and Performing Arts in Kingston, Jamaica (BFA). Major Ceramic/Pottery 1994 and MFA in Education 2009 Elmira College. I am currently an Art Teacher in the Ithaca City School District, I work at the school I graduated from in 1990, the Lehman Alternative Community School. I have been blessed to live and travel in South and Central America, Brazil, and Caribbean and West Africa Ghana.
My Art work is influenced by my travel and my Afro-Latinx heritage. My commitment to use sustainable material such as rocks gives my art the connection to the earth and our natural environment. I painted faces in acrylic and then sealed them to preserve the essence of the spirits of our ancestors and those yet to come. Created and designed with love no one face is the same. As my niece said “Titi are you making Black Mama Magic? I said yes!”
