For as long as she can remember June Szabo has made objects---when young, they were ephemeral. Permanence came with the discovery of needles, thread, fabric, wood, hammer, and nails. Weaving for more than 40 years, Szabo is still fascinated with the process. The possibilities for combining different colors, patterns, and materials never ends. Exploring those options fills the shelves at Handwork with one-of-a-kind scarves, rugs, woven metal baskets, wood, and metal sculpture.
Szabo says she will always make art. It is how she responds to what is happening in the world. Wound about and woven into the living processes of the earth, art is Szabo’s way of examining her relationship to nature, to the earth and to others
