I have always made art. Even as a child my hands were busy and my thoughts would wander to places unknown. I was always hungry to learn, to devour new information, and to find a way to speak this new knowledge into existence through creative endeavors. Art helps me to both connect to the world and make sense of its chaos. Painting allows me to bring a sense of order to the magic I see all around me. With a brush I can make marks that represent both the object and my experience of the object. I have always been an artist. It is my first language.
As an artist, the voice I am finding speaks softly and traditionally through my oil paintings and my gouache paintings. It also speaks boldly and loudly through my work with acrylic gouache and polymer clay. They are two halves to a whole. They both take their inspiration from nature, but sing their own tunes.
I am an award winning artist who works in several different mediums. I hold a Masters Degree in Art Education and have had the pleasure of helping many students launch into art careers of their own. I was a founding member and longtime administrator of a local Urban Sketchers group. Currently I am the president of the oldest art society in the country. Most days you can find me at the easel, out in nature, cuddling my cats, or mentoring and teaching emerging artists.
