Susan Reed

Susan Reed

In 1983, while out house hunting in NC, I came upon a shop in an old warehouse building housing handcrafted furniture and gifts. The owner was standing at the counter weaving a basket. I was immediately intrigued by this and we started up a conversation. It turned out that she was hosting a beginner’s class that evening. Needless to say, I have been weaving baskets since that fateful day.

I have tried different types of weaving materials such as brown ash, sweet grass, honeysuckle, etc., but have always liked the reed material the best. Maybe because of my last name? These baskets have a tung oil finish, making it easy to keep them clean. With care, they should last a long time.
